To attend or not to attend?

To attend or not to attend?

“Wheew, JEE and boards finally over. Time to enjoy my life” was the the first thought¬† that crossed my mind after I got into NSIT. I thanked the stars for being on my side, and walked into NSIT. From that day onwards I knew that college life would be a complete roller coster ride for me. However, it was quite the opposite. Like most people, I too imagined what college life would have in store for me. With this new phase of life, came a different sense of freedom and a feeling of complete independence. We all thought it’d be a 180 degree flip from the life we left behind in school. But, with a lot of despair I feel expectations versus reality was a real slap on the faces on many students here in NSIT. With a rigorous schedule to keep up with, and never ending classes it becomes rather difficult to fit “the college life” in between all of this. I feel kind of sandwiched between attending meetings and attending important classes. Moreover, the strict attendance policy has us all bounded and cornered. The marks that you get in your internals are pretty much based on your attendance, and god forbid you miss too many classes, you’re detained. On the other hand, even if you do end up going to class, but the teacher doesn’t show up, you lose attendance again. Coming to the detention list, it is certainly something that is feared by all students here in campus. We all had beads of sweat on our faces when the detention list for this year was announced. Since it came out only a day before the semester examinations, we all lost one more day of studies due to all the anxiety. Leaving the admin block after the detention list was put up, I wondered “Whew! not detained this sem, I will maintain my attendance in the next sem.”
